Interesting things to know about the towel

How often do you wash your towel? Some people wash once a week, while some, once a year. The towel is a fertile breeding ground for millions of microbes, especially those found on human skin and on the gut.  No wonder the towel is one of the objects that facilitate fecal-oral contamination (literally connecting the two ends of the gut).  Worse still, most people keep towels in the bathroom (near the toilet). Every flush of the toilet sends mist with millions of microbes, ranging from H.pylori,  salmonella and other deadly bacteria and viruses. When you wash your hands ready for a meal, and dry them with your body towel, there's high chance you are directly ingesting your fecal matter, or, if in a shared lavatory, someone else's faeces. Unless cleaned well, viruses such as human papillomavirus (causes warts, anal cancer and cervical cancer) can be transmitted when towels are shared with infected individuals. So, what to do? 1. What’s your story? After graduating from University and working in the health and fitness industry for a few years, I left Australia in 1998 on a one way ticket to follow my dreams and travel the world. What excites you most about your industry? Health is one of the most engaging and empowering industries to be involved in. The world is becoming increasingly aware and interested in healthy active living – There is nothing more rewarding than helping others perform better and be the best they can be in their journey of success. What’s your connection to Asia? I originally left Australia in 1998 on a one way ticket to travel the world! Travelled Europe for nearly a year and had already arranged some work at the Commonwealth Games being held in KL in 1998. From there I travelled through Asia and dropping to check out Chiva Som (I had applied for a position there before I had left Australia the year before. I was offered a position and that is where I commenced my time in Asia. However after a few years in wellness and hospitality (living in Malaysia, Thailand and India) I felt the need to get to the US and explore options within the health industry there. The US is the mecca of health and fitness after all! I lived and consulted on health resorts in Mexico before travelling throughout the east and west coast. I soon realised where I needed to be. And that was back in Asia, implementing my vision and pioneering the health industry. Favourite city in Asia for business and why? Bangkok is our base, and has been a fantastically challenging platform to develop and implement our training and results systems. Bangkok has also be a solid strategic location to continue the evolution of our vision to expand throughout the region with our various business models and concepts. What’s the best piece of advice you ever received? Never listen to anyone who says ‘it can’t be done’ or ‘that won’t work’ And THINK BIG! Who inspires you? Other successful entrepreneurs. Richard Branson specifically. What have you just learnt recently that blew you away? 114 Million Chinese with Diabetes! ‘Opportunity right there’ If you had your time again, what would you do differently? Definitely attract more investment for a more aggressive growth strategy and enter ecommerce earlier. How do you unwind? Riding my Kawasaki Ninja! Going for a massage, Scuba Diving, Sky Diving and Getting out of the city to some beautiful beaches and islands. Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why? Koh Samed, Thailand. Such an easy drive or ride from bangkok with stunning beaches, chilled laid back culture with a variety of beaches to get really isolated and feel you are a thousand miles away from anywhere.
