Interesting things to know about the towel

How often do you wash your towel? Some people wash once a week, while some, once a year. The towel is a fertile breeding ground for millions of microbes, especially those found on human skin and on the gut.  No wonder the towel is one of the objects that facilitate fecal-oral contamination (literally connecting the two ends of the gut).  Worse still, most people keep towels in the bathroom (near the toilet). Every flush of the toilet sends mist with millions of microbes, ranging from H.pylori,  salmonella and other deadly bacteria and viruses. When you wash your hands ready for a meal, and dry them with your body towel, there's high chance you are directly ingesting your fecal matter, or, if in a shared lavatory, someone else's faeces. Unless cleaned well, viruses such as human papillomavirus (causes warts, anal cancer and cervical cancer) can be transmitted when towels are shared with infected individuals. So, what to do? 1. Launder towels once a week. 2. Use hot water and det...

A memorable day

By strive masiyiwa __243 years ago, a seed was planted... About two weeks ago, my wife and I traveled to Cambridge Massachusetts, the home of Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where I was inducted into the membership of one of the most revered institutions in the world: the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.  Founded during the American Revolution in 1780 by John Adams just four years after American Independence, the Academy’s mission is: "To cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.” Members were at first generally confined only to a handful of Americans each year but over time other nationalities were also elected, in a category called Foreign Honorary Members, or now,  International Honorary Member (IHM).  The Academy's first international member was from France... back in 1781! There have been several distinguished...

You Will Get Many Opportunities...

By strive masiyiwa Over the years I have learnt to be wary about adopting popular sayings, particularly when they do not come from the bible. One such popular saying is: "Opportunity, only knocks once..." This is not true! I have seen many people driven to ruin, because of what they saw as "the opportunity of a lifetime"(another untruth), .... Not long ago, a highly reputable international company invited me to be their partner, in a new venture they wanted to do in Africa. To their surprise, I declined, even though I would not be required to even pay for the shares. Now I knew that it would be profitable, very profitable; but that is not the point: - it was not in my area of business, and expertise. -it was not in the area where I am interested, at this point, in time; I am not opportunistic. - I'm not sitting around waiting for people to bring me things to get into. Think of a company like Coca Cola; do you imagine they regret that they did not go ...
