Interesting things to know about the towel

How often do you wash your towel? Some people wash once a week, while some, once a year. The towel is a fertile breeding ground for millions of microbes, especially those found on human skin and on the gut.  No wonder the towel is one of the objects that facilitate fecal-oral contamination (literally connecting the two ends of the gut).  Worse still, most people keep towels in the bathroom (near the toilet). Every flush of the toilet sends mist with millions of microbes, ranging from H.pylori,  salmonella and other deadly bacteria and viruses. When you wash your hands ready for a meal, and dry them with your body towel, there's high chance you are directly ingesting your fecal matter, or, if in a shared lavatory, someone else's faeces. Unless cleaned well, viruses such as human papillomavirus (causes warts, anal cancer and cervical cancer) can be transmitted when towels are shared with infected individuals. So, what to do? 1. Launder towels once a week. 2. Use hot water and det...

IS BEING BLACK A CURSE?...GO FIGURE.

Being Kenyan is becoming an insult. When did I attain this identity that just because I am black I should pave the way for the whites? In bank queues, interview queues e.t.c. I am a local and so it's okay to kick me out of the presidential suite just because a white brother wants it too? When did being black become our favorite punchline? You can see this attitude everywhere. I know of such one case where my bosom buddy and her family toured Mt. Longonot during the festive season. There are these business ladies who sell artifacts and other African items at the entrance. These ladies wouldn't give them a second glance. When they enquired how much a tiny elephant carving would cost, the lady retorted back angrily " Elfu Tano, NA kama hamnunui muache kushikashika!" Good gracious! That is just so insulting! So rude! So arrogant! So obnoxious! It hurts to the core of my black African heart. Why are we doing this to each other? Why are we culturally tripping? Why do we still send our girls to the Arab countries, Saudi Arabia, yet we know of the levels of racism there? Yet we know they are still stuck in the era of slavery? Is Fifteen Thousand shillings worth one to be a sex slave? And if she does not conform the guys there have no problem killing the black African girls. Why are we such fools? Just because the grass looks greener there it doesn't mean they can not paint it so. How far have we internalized the idea that being black is a curse? A mortal sin that tangles you to eternal punishment. That's why our girls are opting for skin lightening. We have absorbed too much and no one seems to take a moment and think about it. For instance tonight how many local shows will be aired? Our media is dominated by soap opera's, Hollywood, Bollywood ...Why not Riverwood? Is it because we will laugh at ourselves for the quality of our films which are by the way filmed eighty percent by the white guys...they come in to our country and we pave way for them to the top. Who said we are not good enough? We are equally intellectually blessed. We didn't come with a price tag declaring we are the Cheapest in the world to survive on crumbs of charity all our lives. Why do we mock any credible attempt to thrive as a Kenyan? You will hear them...ooh Lupita is not so beautiful she has no *ss or boobs! So what? She made it you didn't. A reasonable person with a brain in their head and love in their heart for their country wouldn't do that. I overheard someone (stivie wonder) ask some mockers; "who won the Oscar's? Who wears 2.5 million dollar dresses? Who earns all the millions? Who has made it in Hollywood? Who is worth more dollars? Whose dream is valid? Who walks on the red carpet?..I thought so." Had they victimized Barack Obama would he have broken the chain of history and be the first black president ? I don't think so. Don't you see how this plays against ourselves? Just because your neighbour's child got a Scholarship to Havard because of their hardwork you "catch " feelings and never talk to them ever again...you wonder how they thrived yet they don't have a powerful name or money or powerful allies. Lets stop being selfish . Let's stop being our number one enemies. Can't we learn how to appreciate each other? Be happy for each other? Treat black and white equally? Am a black so are you. A nigga just like me!
