Strengthening cultural tourism for the SDGS

The rapid growth of cultural tourism is undeniably evident, and this, according to the UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai, “comes with increased responsibility to protect our cultural and natural assets, the very foundation of our societies and our civilizations”. Major stakeholders at the just concluded 2nd UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture Muscat, held in the capital city of the Sultanate of Oman on 11th-12th December 2017, reaffirmed to build and strengthen partnerships between the tourism and culture sectors and enhance their role in the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This, under the Muscat Declaration on Tourism and Culture : Fostering Sustainable Development. Image credit: UNWTO 1. Strengthen the synergies between tourism and culture and advance the contribution of cultural tourism to the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the 17 SDGs; Under this commitment, five underlying pointers are listed among them promoting the engagement of

MARRIAGE IS A CHOICE YOU MAKE EVERYDAY. NOT ONLY ON THE WEDDING DAY.

Many couples are divorced before their wedding day because most things that leads to divorce doesn't happen overnight, it has always been there before marriage but we overlook a lot of obstacles because we're blindly in love. Do not be fooled into believing that marriage will automatically change a person's character. The only thing a wedding will change is your relationship status from single to married. It's hard to change a person who is never ready to change. If you're not happy together while dating, there's a 75% chances that you won't be happy after the marriage. If you have to fight or beg for attention before the marriage, don't expect an overnight affection after the marriage. Of course many people can pretend to be what they are not, but there's a limit to how much a person can pretend if you're paying attention and you're honest with yourself. Endurance and Ignorance are never the same. Endurance is staying and believing that a

Six ways men can escape poverty

1. Get the right woman: Forget the slay queens and women with looks but zero brains. Get a woman who will not only support your vision but will also push you to achieve more. A woman who will inspire you to work hard and not a woman who just makes you hard. He who finds a real woman finds a good thing and obtains favour and power to create wealth. 2. Stop Taking Cheap Drinks: I have no problem with having drinks during social interaction and networking. However, when you drink cheap drinks or drink in cheap places, you hang out with cheap people who have cheap ideas and a cheap future. Big business opportunities are found in places where the drinks are expensive. In fact, in places where they sell cheap drinks, the only people you will find there are people who will be asking you for money. They even clap when you come knowing 'big buyer' has come. 3. Stop being Lazy: "Man ooh Man, why art thou Lazy?" You are too lazy for your own good. You sleep the whole day an

Kenya Supreme Court gives reasons for upholding Uhuru Kenyatta's win

The Kenya Supreme Court on Monday explained why it dismissed two election petitions challenging the October 26 repeat election. According to the six judges, there were nine issues for consideration from the two consolidated petitions. ISSUES One issue was whether the petitioners had the right to challenge the outcome and whether the case was a public interest litigation. In a decision read by Justice Isaac Lenaola, the judges ruled that the petitioners had the right to sue. They said any Kenyan is free to challenge the presidential poll The court also ruled that there was no need for fresh nominations for the repeat presidential election after the first poll was voided. On September 1, the Supreme Court had annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win in the August 8 election. CANDIDATES Justice Lenaola also said the inclusion of Mr Cyrus Jirongo in the poll was okay because the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was guided by the law and court decisions. "We th

Hon.Moses Kuria open letter to Nasa leader Raila Odinga

By Moses Kuria Dear Raila Odinga. From the bottom of my heart, today I totally feel for you. I told you days before the 26th October repeat elections to avoid receiving advice from people who want to inherit your political kingdom. Did you listen? Orengo, Muthama and Musalia wanakucheza. They are tightening the noose around your neck. They want to make a cartoon out of you. First they raise the expectations of your supporters. They lift you to the mountains then when you are up there, like the gods in Greek mythology, they ask you to fly. They then wait to hear a loud thud as you hit the ground. This is how they convinced you to boycott the repeat election. Now the same with the swearing in that never was. You really need to resist them. You now need time to reflect on your own. May be go back to Zanzibar. When you are back, come see me, okay? We need to have a chat

Nazizi: Best/Perfect Example Of Positive Femininity

By Cyprian Nyakundi Nazizi Hirji is perhaps the ONLY example of woman whom I can think of, who hasn't used her body and pussy for progression. In the 90’s when former President Moi had choked all avenues of artistic expression, Naz fought hard to make Kenyan music be what it is. And she didn't turn into an activists like the old hags we see daily on NTV yapping about inclusivity and affirmative-action like Schaeffer Okore and Dr. Njoki Ngumi. She did her thing, and inspired us. When the then Transport Minister John Michuki cracked down on the matatu industry asking them to have one color with the yellow line, it was Naz with her song and Wyre, who said that we shouldn't do away with our culture. Matatu’s should be allowed to be vessels of artistic expression. And it was hit-song, after hit-song. She didn't disappoint. Her generation owes her alot. She also sets a good example to women, not to rely on pussy-power for career progression. And you can always tell the wo

This Is A Warning From Boy-Child President To All Sponsors aka “Sponyo’s”

By Cyprian Nyakundi I'm hereby issuing a stern warning to all Sponsors aka “Sponyo's” to immediately desist fucking our bitches. Uhuru signed a law legalising polygamy (I don't know who made it illegal in the first place), so if you really feel like you need the extra satisfaction, marry a second wife. Lakini don't be fucking up our bitches, sending them cash, taking them to dinner in fancy places and planting their heads with obscene concepts of love as an expensive affair. If you Sponsor’s don't heed to this, I promise you that our Boy-Child members will impregnate your daughters once they come of age, and make them single-mothers while still under your roofs. Mumetuzoea sasa nyinyi Ma-Sponyo. Mtalea Watoto wetu. Tuheshimiane wazee. Mimi naitwa Nyakundi na sitakangi ujinga!

Spoilt Brats: Kenyan Parents To Blame For Current Social Dilemma

By Contributor Let me add the benefit of my time as a student and then resident in the UK-and I live in Nairobi now. The first thing that I discovered about UK-born,white, English undergraduates was that all of them did holiday or weekend job to support themselves-including the children of millionaires amongst them. It is the norm over there- regardless how wealthy their parents are. And I soon discovered that virtually all other foreign students did the same-the exception being those of us status-conscious Kenyans. I also watched Richard Branson (owner of Virgin Airline) speaking on the Biography Channel and, to my amazement, he said that his young children travel in the economy class-even when the parents (he and his wife) are in upper class. Richard Branson is a billionaire in Pound Sterling. A quick survey would show you that only children from Kenya fly business or upper class to commence their studies in the UK. No other foreign students do this. There is no aircraft attached t

Technologies that will enhance hotel experience in 2018

As we look forward to closing the year, Jumia Travel takes a keen look at emerging and growing hotel technologies that will shape the new year. Voice Adaptation, anyone home? Voice is no doubt an ongoing craze across various industries; think of Siri, Alexa, Cortana and the rest. The little complications of accents, privacy and communication barriers notwithstanding, incorporation of voice-focused devices in hotels will ease operations as guests can get hands-free answers to their queries without reaching for the phone. Virtual Reality; seeing is believing! Think innovation and inspiration, VR can have an endless list of possibilities. On top of providing “real time” entertainment and insight, VR can be incorporated in marketing concepts to woo potential guests with real recordings of the hotel and destination. Hotels are also adapting VR as part of in-room entertainment through creating experiences that respond to guest needs, for instance, Best Western North Ameri

Love Him Or Hate Him, Ruto Will Be The 5th President Of Kenya

By Albert Nyakundi Amenya (The Banana Peddler) In my writings, I have said a lot of bad things about the person of Deputy President in the past. I have been one of his fiercest critics. I have strongly berated him before in this space because of his stubbornness towards NASA. I have rechristened him with a torrent of nomenclatures but that was then. On the other hand, I have said time without number that in Kenya, there are only two political cognoscenti – Prime Minister Raila Odinga and His Excellency Deputy President William Samoei Arap Ruto. The rest are just cankerworms and caterpillars. You are at liberty to chuckle at your own risk. Unregretfully however, Today, I want highlight a few critical facts about DP William Ruto. My fellow NASA supporters may feel discombobulated by the message as encompassed, but it is the truth nevertheless. Hate him or love him, Ruto is one of the most powerful politicians. He is one of the bravest men having risen from the woods. He is an ideal

Nails In The Fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.” You can put a

At the end of life we will not be judged by

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by “I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.” ~ Mother Teresa

Tourism’s prominence grows, as African governments position the sector in their agenda

The tourism sector in Africa, which according to UNWTO saw an 8% increase in international arrivals in 2016, is progressively becoming prominent largely due to the increased commitment from governments. Possessing massive potential to foster positive change and transformation, it is timely that most heads of states and governments are seeing the urgency to prioritize the sector now directly accounting for 10.2% of the world’s GDP (US$2.3 trillion). Following Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive after taking the oath of office for the second term on the 28th of November, 2017, Africans visiting the country will henceforth receive a visa on arrival, in a move to further enhance collaboration between Kenya and her African counterparts. “The freer we are to travel and live with one another, the more integrated and appreciative of our diversity we will become,” emphasized President Uhuru during his inaugural speech. “To underscore Kenya’s commitment, this shall not be done on the

Prof Ndii Wife Natural Beauty And Intellect BREAKS INTERNET, Leaves Slay Queens CURSING

By Hon Jim Bonnie Ladies I’m not lecturing you on morality here but if you’ve watched David Ndii’s wife speak, that’s what makes a man tick. Intellectual acuity, unflinching courage, amiable smartness, meritorious beauty and unimpeachable loyalty. Not fake nails, expensive weaves, tons of makeups dumped on your body and fucking fake accent. Not posting filtered photos on social media and proclaiming “I’m hoooot!” Fuck you! Who told you others are cold? Without much ado, from Jimi Wanjigi to David Ndii’s wife, let’s give kamba ladies credit. Murderous Kikuyu ladies can go on butchering their husbands to inherit their wealth. Kalenjin ladies just continue rejecting marriage proposals from Luos because you fear talking in English. Kisii ladies you can be better than kamba ladies if you stop crying like success cards during sex. Wasichana wa Pwani telling a man “kantombe kaka. Kantombe mwana we” in bed is not romantic. It rather makes a man feel like he’s doing nothing. Luhya la

It doesn’t matter if the glass is half empty or half full

“It doesn’t matter if the glass is half empty or half full. Be grateful that you have a glass, and there is something in it.” Always remember that you control your thoughts, and thus, your happiness. Your thinking generates your emotions. Your emotions generate your actions. Be grateful and focus on the abundance in your life. Think positive and live positive. Think love and embody love. Love is within you and all around you–invite it into your life.

SIGNS HE DOESN’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE YOUR HUSBAND

We talk about women being or not being good enough for marriage all the time, so I think it makes sense to talk about men for a bit too. I know it’s kinda difficult to tell who cares and doesn’t really, but I also have always said that if you didn’t see the signs before it happened, then you didn’t pay enough attention. There’s nothing that happens without some sort of warning. The worst people in marriage always showed the signs during the dating stage. Sadly, we mostly choose to not see them. It shouldn’t be so. Better to lose it now than lose it tomorrow after you would have paid a heavy price too. Here are some signs that guy you’re seeing is not the type you should consider for marriage. YOU DON’T SHARE THE SAME BELIEFS AND VALUES When your beliefs and values don’t align, what you’ll likely get is disagreement. And if you manage to steer that relationship clear of it before the children come, when they do eventually come, what happens? Whose values will be instilled? Whose

4 THINGS YOU MUST NEVER DO ON SOCIAL MEDIA

With each passing day, technology improves, and with improvement comes all manner of danger. Some time ago, one could be less worried about where they log into, and the type of things they download, however, these days, the story is changing; hence the need for more care on our part. There are a lot of criminals and evil minded people out there who are looking for a way to scam or destroy you. The slightest mistake on your part can grant them the power to. If you use social media in any way, you must be very wary of the following… SYNCING ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS There was a time I tried this, because it looked cool, however, I soon came to realise that these social media platforms differ. What works for platform A may not work with another, so it’s better to operate them individually. For example some platforms have language and characters that are unique to them. Imagine how awful it’d be if you used them on another platform as a result of synchronization. AVOID USING

5 WAYS TO QUICKLY GAIN WEIGHT

Losing weight is a common problem among a lot of people globally, and there are millions of posts suggesting how to go about it. Gaining weight on the other hand, isn’t the most popular challenge out there, but believe me, it is real for some, and unlike losing weight, they have no idea how to go about it. If you’re looking to add a few extra pounds, here’s exactly what you need to do… EAT HEAVY DINNER Usually, if you’re trying to shed some pounds, it’s advised that you eat little at night, but if it’s the opposite effect you’re looking to create on yourself, then, eating heavy is the way to go. The more you eat, the more your body has enough calories to store up, which equals more weight. DRINK LESS WATER Drinking lots of water during meals allow for you to get full quicker, because it adds extra content to your stomach. However, if it’s weight you want to gain, you have to eat more, which means drinking less so you have more space for food in your stomach. REDUCE PHYSICAL ACTI

SIGNS YOU’RE ONLY A SIDE CHICK

Honestly, I don’t even like to use that word, ‘side chick’ because I think it’s disrespectful to women, but the truth is there are a lot of women who embrace their ‘side chick’ status, and it’s disappointing. So who is a side chick? Well, a side chick is a woman who plays backup to another woman in a relationship. A man has a girlfriend or wife, but then, because he can’t be mature enough to control the urge to cheat, he runs after another, usually for sex or some other kind of satisfaction. The interesting thing about side chicks today is while a lot of women do not know they’re playing second fiddle, there are an even very impressive many who know, and willingly accept to be backup. But for those who do not know they’re a side chick, how do you really know? THERE’S NO PDA WHATSOEVER I know that it’s not everybody that’s bold enough to show affection to their lover publicly, but there are different ways to do it without having to put yourself in a position where you have to feel

TIPS TO HELP YOU GET A BETTER SALARY (AND JOB) THAN YOU ALREADY HAVE

The goal of every employee or job seeker is to not just land their dream job, but also their kind of salary. The dream of a recruiter, on the other hand, is to spend as little as possible on salaries, so unless you are aware of the secrets and complexities of remuneration, you may end up cheating yourself out on both salary and a job. We have put together a few tips we believe will help you in landing that dream salary/job. WAIT FOR AN OFFER Some people are usually too quick to name their expected pay during an interview. Don’t jump the gun, and mention your salary expectation. It throws the employer off and it shows you off as someone who is after the money and not for the love of the job. Always wait for when the recruiter makes you an offer. DON’T BE IN A HURRY TO NAME YOUR PRICE There’s an accepted salary structure for every employment position, depending on your qualifications. When your recruiter asks you to tell them ‘how much you’d like to be paid’, don’t hurriedly ment

Raila Odinga Statement On The Overthrow Of Dictatorship In Zimbabwe

My fellow Principals in NASA, and I, along with all freedom-loving Kenyans, join you in your moment of boundless joy and offer you our warmest congratulations. The tumultuous scenes of ecstasy throughout Zimbabwe at the departure of the dictator Robert Mugabe attest to the African people’s irrepressible hunger for freedom and liberty. You have succeeded in peacefully overthrowing tyranny and dictatorship and created for yourselves the promise of a prosperous future that only democracy can provide. This is a historic moment for you and for all Africans who yearn for a better life in democracy. At the same time, your astonishing triumph over a deeply-entrenched despotism will instill fear in the hearts of the continent’s many dictators. I encourage to move swiftly towards consolidating your gains towards democracy, which alone will prevent the return of the old order. For me personally, this a moment of great satisfaction and of a dream fulfilled. In 2008, as Prime Minister of Ken

Lonely Planet’s World’s Best (African) Destinations 2018, Plus Places to Top Your List

World’s best travel guidebook is at it again with its ever-controversial list of places to indulge for the year coming. As usual, this is not the buzzfeed, cookie-cutter kind of edition, but rather picks caves and valleys, dens and dines off the beaten path, yet with an experience to the end of the galaxy and back. Jumia Travel takes a peek of the continents top most, and gets a glimpse of where to stay in other listed countries and cities Djibouti Topping the continent’s list of priority, and sneaking in behind Chile at number four, Djibouti is the real definition of fire and ice thanks to its unearthly location between three antagonizing tectonic plates. Popularly undiscovered (no pun), off the route and sealed behind dead volcanoes, deep gulf and a city trying hard to dust itself of the colonial dust, Djibouti combines high adrenaline trekking, shark-daring diving and unadulterated heritage for anyone intrepid enough to dare. As Lonely Planet reports in their listing, it’s “

BOOKS CHANGED MY LIFE

I just finished a speaking tour in the US. One of the places I spoke at was Amherst College, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s alma mater. I met with his academic advisor and he remembers him as a quiet student. I also spoke at Colby College in Maine and ended my visit with a talk at Harvard University. At the age of 15, l was kicked out of school and only got to do my O-level exams last year at 34 years. Being kicked out of school at such a young age didn’t mean it was the end of education for me. Like Mao Zedong, Malcolm X, among other known public intellectuals, l am self-educated. I can honestly say that without reading, l would not be where l am today. My love for reading helped me secure a place in journalism school without an O-level certificate. I sat for the college entrance exams, just like my fellow students, and passed. My college mates nicknamed me “the boy from Harvard”, because l possessed a lot of knowledge about what we were studying. I hawked books to pay for my colle
