Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has written to the Inspector General of police, Joseph Boinnet saying his life might be in danger. Through his lawyers Githinji and Karoki advocates, the billionaire has said that he has noticed persons unknown to him follow him. Wanjigi strongly believes that the systematic onslaught against him is due to his political affiliations. He has been seen to be supporting NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga and was at one time purported to be a key financier of the NASA campaign. Meru Governor Peter Munya has said that he will not defend his seat on a Jubilee ticket saying the party already favours his rival, Senator Kiraitu Murungi. President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Thursday that the law is clear on disbanding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and asked the opposition to follow the law if they genuinely wanted to reform the country electoral body. President Kenyatta reminded the opposition that the Constitution –which they participated in its passage – clearly sets out the procedures to be followed if one wanted to disband IEBC, pointing out that demonstrations and breaking the law will not help in any way. “I have no powers to disband IEBC. First, it started when in October 28, 2015 Members of Parliament voted to impose an Excise Duty tax of shs 200,000 for importing more than three year old cars. A car that is three year old is now attracting an additional shs 150,000 on excise duty up from a previous average of shs 45,000. Since Kenyans import an average of 7,000 cars every month, the new excise duty was supposed to give the Government an additional shs 168 million each year, but according to reports generated by the end of January 2016, the implementation of the excise duty only worked to reduce the car imports, something that happened for the first time in four years.
