Kenyan students are set to benefit from a total of 50 scholarships Hungary annually for three years between 2015 to 2017. This follows an agreement that the Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Education, has struck with the government of Hungary.
The Principal Secretary for the State Department of Education Dr. Belio Kipsang signed the Agreement on Kenya’ behalf in Budapest, Hungary on 2nd November, 2015. Hungarian Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog signed the agreement on behalf of Hungary.
Under the agreement, the Hungarian Government shall offer 50 scholarships to Kenyan students of excellence annually to undertake studies in Hungary. The terms of the Agreement will see Hungarian government shall offer a total of 15 scholarships for a full three or four year BA/Bsc studies in the field agriculture, engineering, economics, natural sciences, sports sciences and public administration.
For full MA/Mscs study programme, Hungry shall offer 25 scholarships in similar study programmes as those offered at undergraduate levels. Some 10 scholarships in Doctoral study programmes will be available to Kenyans in the field of their interest.
The students securing the scholarships will receive tuition free courses, enjoy accommodation and be entitled to health services besides monthly allowances during the study period. The students entering Hungary under the scholarship programme will be required to return after completing the studies to contribute to the socio-economic welfare of the country.
Under the Agreement, Kenya shall offer 10 scholarships to Hungarian students annually to study or research during 1-6 month in Kenya institutions in any field. Eligible students for the scholarships must have an adequate and appropriate degree.
The agreement is based on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), under which the governments of the two countries signed a Cultural and Scientific Cooperation agreement in on 25th August, 1987.
