Jumia Kenya to double Black Friday bargains this year

· Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the US and regarded as the beginning of Christmas shopping season when many retailers offer promotions and massive price cuts on products.
· Black Friday concept was first introduced in Kenya by Jumia in 2014
· Last year, massive online traffic temporarily crashed the Jumia site. This year Jumia has doubled its bargains
· Fashion and electronics expected to exhibit best sales as major retailers and brands cut costs.
Nairobi, Kenya 12th Nov 2015, Online sales are expected to triple those of last year as Jumia Kenya gears to double its bargains for its second edition of Black Friday scheduled for 27th – 30th of this month. If the prediction is true, it will be the biggest Black Friday in the history of Kenya.
With only two weeks remaining before the anticipated shopping weekend in Kenya’s history, leading brands selling on the Jumia online marketplace have moved to cut prices and offer massive discounts of upto 90% on products besides optimizing their online shops layout as Jumia bets on its countrywide delivery network, numerous pick-up points and pay on delivery service to offer customers a seamless experience.
Parinaz Firozi, MD, Jumia Kenya said, “It’s all systems go! We have sealed the most amazing deals for you. The only part remaining is for you to be online from the 27th making a second check every second and you can go home smiling.”
In 2014, Jumia Kenya increased sales by 900% and largely attributed the success to the year’s Black Friday however, Firozi notes that consumer confidence and preference for online shopping has grown tremendously in the last months but points out that a lot remains to be done to boost e-commerce in Kenya from lowering the costs of data to increasing broadband and high speed internet connections in rural areas.
“You will notice that most people shop online while at work where internet connections are more stable and advanced than at home.”
Last year’s Black Friday showed great interest in digital products such as flat screen TV’s, electronics, ventilation systems and Fashion items. This year Jumia will offer great deals on cosmetics, home appliances and even children toys An hourly updated sneak peak of the deals on offer will be available on the Jumia website and on the company’s social media accounts several days before Black Friday. To take advantage, the faster you spot a deal, add to cart and check out the better your luck.
