Kenyans living in the US and Canada have faulted the Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, for questioning the visit by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was invited to attend a forum at Boston University, Massachusetts, to speak alongside former Presidents about Kenya and Africa. Speaking yesterday, Kenyans in Diaspora, led by Gordon Teti, asked President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto and Kenyans back home to celebrate and embrace Raila’s visit to the US, because his visit is doing Kenya more good than bad. He said Raila is promoting Kenya’s image abroad pretty well and his one month long stay in the US will yield so much for Kenya. From The Economist AS THE sun goes down over Nairobi, a new rich set of T-shirt-wearing Kenyans, most of them black and in their 30s, roar with laughter as they quaff whiskies and smoke giant cigars in the Capital Club, the country’s latest temple to Mammon. A year’s membership, a beautiful waitress proudly purrs, is “a million shillings”—about $10,000. Your correspondent watches English football on one of four large television screens, alongside a wall of faux-Masai shields, while waiting for his would-be host, the spokesman of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Alas, the spokesman fails to turn up; it is a Saturday evening, but the president is apparently too busy to spare him. Mr Kenyatta, one of Kenya’s richest oligarchs, who next month will complete his first year in office, is reportedly fond of similar ritzy watering-holes. Barely a mile away from the Capital Club, the acrid fumes of charcoal fires in Kibera, a notorious slum, mingle with the stench of sewage running down the muddy alley...

This is how it goes. A victim is called by a total stranger purporting to be working for any of the mobile service providers, claiming they have won cash even for promotions they were not involved in. To trap their would-be victims or unsuspecting phone subscribers, the caller cautions the victim never to share the PIN even as they jointly plan to transfer the proceeds of a non-existent cash. That gives a sense of false confidence. According to the victims accounts, the callers appear "fine, graduates and people with either a link or experience in customer care of mobile service providers". They add "unlike the Kamiti prison fraudsters, the latest callers are not in a hurry and call the prey repeatedly without switching off their numbers". Once their prey are convinced, they ask them whether or not they have any money in their M-Pesa accounts so as to avoid exceeding the allowable holding limit. They are so clever in asking not for the exact amount but round figure....
