4 WAYS YOU CAN BE MORE PRODUCTIVE AND STAND OUT AT WORK

The key to getting promotions and excelling at work is standing out and productivity. People often make the error of thinking it’s only a consequence of luck and being close to the bosses. Well, perhaps those work sometimes, but oftentimes, nobody cares unless you give them a reason to.

Employers don’t like wasting money, but they’re humans too. What this implies is that they will not see you put in so much effort and prove you’re deserving of a promotion, and deny it you. So how do you seamlessly standout in your work place?

PUT TALENT TO WORK

Obviously, you were employed because of what you can do (skills), but that’s not all you can offer. Inside every one of us, there is a God-given talent. You only need to look within, and see how it can be useful to your organisation. Some people are gifted at negotiating, others at persuading — whatever it is, it can be useful to your organisation, so reach for it, and show your company you are more than just who they employed.

TRY NOT TO OVER-DO IT

In a bid to show we can multi-task and do more than our primary responsibility at work, some people take on duties that they can’t really handle. This leads to them making mistakes on the job. Your employer put a lot of money into his business; he’s looking to gain, and not lose. Don’t give him a reason to see you as a liability. Focus only your strengths.

THINK ABOUT TOMORROW

Every time you feel like slowing down at work, think about the future. Think about the fact that you do not intend to end up in the same company or position forever. Even if your family own the organisation you work for, you must want to grow somehow, right? So let that be your motivation. Acquire new skills to improve yourself. Gather all the experience you can, as you look forward to being a better person tomorrow.

IGNORE CRITICISM AND UNDER- APPRECIATION

Some employers will make you feel like you’re not doing enough, no matter how much you do. So you’ll naturally feel dampened and discouraged to continue, but at a time like that, remind yourself that you’re doing this for you and your future, so you just keep going.
