presiding over this years Madaraka day
national celebrations at Uhuru Park
grounds in the Kenyan capital,Nairobi
come Wednesay 1st June.The event will
be attended by both local and
international dignitaries.Alot will be
discussed on the essential electoral
reforms before 2017 and how to realise
real freedom.It is the first time
Madaraka celebration is regaining value
after many decades.Meanwhile the IEBC
president will preside over another
meeting the same day in Nakuru where
he feels ethenically contented.Lets
meet at Uhuru Park for the historical
event.
RAILA FREE TO HOLD PARALLEL CELEBRATIONS-VIA THE STAR
Cord leaders are entitled to hold
parallel Madaraka Day celebrations as
long as they do so peacefully, Interior
CS Joseph Nkaissery said on Friday.
Nkaissery said that the constitution
allows people to hold peaceful
demonstrations.
“Although am not sure if they are going
to hold the celebrations, if they are
going to do it peacefully they are
entitled to it,” Nkaissery said.
He said that he expects more from the
coalition principals since majority of
them are conversant with the law and
fully understand what is required of
them during such occasions.
“I know Cord leaders, they are law
makers. Majority of them are lawyers
although it is unfortunate that they
have started breaking the law,”
Nkaissery said.
He said that his job requires that he
ensures the country is secure by
protecting its citizens and their
property.
“Article 37 of the Constitution allows
every Kenyan to demonstrate
peacefully. But it is very unfortunate if
you are coming to demonstrate armed
with machetes and stones. I know you
are coming for war,” Nkaissery said.
The CS, who spoke at Wilson airport
while commissioning three newly
refurbished police choppers, warned
that any action that will threaten the
peace of the country during the parallel
rally will be met with the necessary
force.

He said that Senators Johnstone
Muthama and James Orengo are likely
to be charged with incitement for the
role they play in inciting the public.
“It is very shameful to see very senior
citizens especially lawyers blowing
whistles in public and breaking the law.
And I don’t want to hear anyone saying
the IG and Nkaissery are breaking the
law,” said Nkaissery.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the
nation in marking the Madaraka Day
celebrations in Nakuru at the Afraha
stadium on June 1.
Cord have meanwhile said that they will
hold parallel Madaraka Day
celebrations at Uhuru Park.
Political analysts see CORD’s planned
parallel celebrations as an opportunity
they are banking on to popularize their
anti-IEBC sentiments.
The coalition wants commissioners of
the electoral body to vacate office
before next year’s elections on the
grounds that they are biased.
