Many people do not understand what hate speech is. Many people have begun accepting online hate speech as a normal thing. What they are forgetting is that when the unacceptable begins to be accepted and becomes a norm then our society begins to be endangered. I know some might be asking why I my concerned about what people talk. Do people not have a right freedom? Yes but freedom is accompanied with responsibilities. Let not your freedom cause harm to your neighbor. Hate speech is real, and it can lead to thousands of deaths. Imagine that you are posting something now that will in the long run cause the death of your friend, family member or neighbor. I know legal measures have been put in place to prevent hate speech in the social media in Kenya but as a patriotic citizen, you should take it as your responsibility to prevent hate speech online. I am not saying that the internet is the worst place to be or people should quit the social media. No, the internet is the most remarkable invention that has revolutionized the world like no other invention has ever done. The internet more so the social media is the best place of communication which has globalized our world but it should not be used to spread propaganda that causes torture to other innocent beings. Let’s prevent hate speech online! Do not use the internet to spread hatred! Let’s exercise our freedom of expression with responsibility!
