TO LIVE OR TO DIE

By Dr Paul Bundi Human beings are endowed with remarkable resilience, which can only be broken when they choose to give up. Says Viktor Frankl in his seminal book, Man's Search for Meaning; ''it is a peculiarity of man that he can only live by looking to the future-sub specie aeternitatis. And this is his salvation in thd most difficult moments of his existence, although he sometimes has to force his mind to the task.'' Man's life is primarily driven by the desire for future, the unshakable belief that the future holds promise. We invariably cease to live when we think we have hit a dead end, or that there's nothing more to be had by living. Theoretically, there is no limit to man's achievement, and that is what drives men to wake up and strive day after day. The opposite is spiritual, psychological death, which manifests way ahead of physical death. Lesson? Losing today doesn't mean losing always. You can lose 10 times and win the 11th time. Or, you

FRIENDS OF DIKEMBE DISEMBE: The White Handkerchief Movement for the Release of Dikembe Disembe

Fellow patriots, We are living in a country where freedom of speech and democracy is foreign to the current ruling club. It has become a ritual for the current regime to blatantly and overtly, without shame, to flout the constitution. A common practice has been the silencing of voices of reason. We all recall how the president excitedly waited to sign the medial bill into law; which as eerie as it appear, he did. After effectively gagging the media and boxing them into surrender, the jubilee administration turned their ugly head on bloggers. They know very well that it is the only platform where people can express themselves liberally without first seeking consent from state house on what to say. Strange as it is, anything you say that jubilee doesn’t like will be treated as hate speech particularly, if you aren’t a sycophantic follower of their peculiar ideologies. They seduced us to stop what they call ‘attacking them’ but failed. They then resorted to coercion and intimidation. They are making real their goal as can be seen through the wrongful arrest, torture and detention of Dikembe Disembe. We want to maintain that as the bloggers critical to this government, we won’t be browbeaten. We can’t bury ours heads the ostrich style. It is against the backdrop of this that we have resolved to launch the White Handkerchief Movement to fight for freedom of expression and agitate for the release of Dikembe. We therefore invite everyone to converge at the freedom corner on Monday 28th, July 2014 from 7.30pm. We will observe a minute of silence for political detainees before having a peaceful match to the high court at Milimani where we will continue with our determination to have one our own released. Despite the return of the dark old days, we can’t allow ourselves be swallowed by that darkness. The true sons and daughters of this land must stand up against oppression of any form. It starts with being part of the White Handkerchief Movement. Our fathers didn’t fight for independence so that we be oppressed by the current black, farting colonialists. Stand and be counted.
