How often do you wash your towel? Some people wash once a week, while some, once a year. The towel is a fertile breeding ground for millions of microbes, especially those found on human skin and on the gut. No wonder the towel is one of the objects that facilitate fecal-oral contamination (literally connecting the two ends of the gut). Worse still, most people keep towels in the bathroom (near the toilet). Every flush of the toilet sends mist with millions of microbes, ranging from H.pylori, salmonella and other deadly bacteria and viruses. When you wash your hands ready for a meal, and dry them with your body towel, there's high chance you are directly ingesting your fecal matter, or, if in a shared lavatory, someone else's faeces. Wildlife conservationists have decried rampant poaching in Kenya saying those responsible are right within the Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto. Addressing the press yesterday, Wildlife Direct founder and one time head of public service, Dr. Richard Leakey, blamed the Government of Uhuru and Ruto of doing very little to protect the wildlife from poachers. He noted that there are 25 senior officials in the Jubilee Government who are engaged in the illegal trade of animal tusks and who encourage poaching of animals in Kenya, but Uhuru and Ruto have continued to protect them despite the heinous crimes, begging the question of whether they could themselves be the benefactors of poaching. “It is not possible that the Jubilee Government does not know those promoting poaching in Kenya, Uhuru and Ruto are very much aware of these senior people in Government, 25 in number, who make money through poaching, but are protecting them”, said Leaky. Leakey called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to overhaul the entire KWS management since it is also compromised by the powerful people in Government, to save our animals. He also wants the President to declare poaching a national disaster. The trade in elephant and Rhino tusks is without a doubt lucrative because it is estimated that 6kg of rhino tusks can fetch as much as sh25 million.
